Intercessory Prayers

Prayer for the Sick

Almighty God, Lord of mankind: remove difficulties, and free the sick from their ills. Ease their sufferings and heal them, for you are the Healer. There is no cure except through you. Help us to remain steadfast and make our faith firmly established.

Prayer for the Family by Saint John Paul II

O God, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and on earth proceeds, Father, who are Love and Life, grant that every human family on earth may become, through your Son, Jesus Christ, “born of Woman,” and the Holy Spirit, source of divine charity, a true sanctuary of life and love for generations, for they are always renewed.
May your grace guide the thoughts and actions of spouses toward the good of their families and of all the families of the world.
May the younger generations find in the family a strong support for their humanity and their growth in truth and love.
May love, strengthened by the grace of the sacrament of matrimony, prove stronger than any weakness and crisis our families sometimes experience.
Finally, we ask you through the intercession of the Holy Family of Nazareth, that the Church in all the nations of the earth may fruitfully fulfill her mission in the family and through the family. You, who are Life, Truth, and Love, in the unity of the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Prayer for Young People

Holy Father! We pray for young people,
who are the hope of the world.

We do not ask you to remove them from corruption,
but to preserve them from it.

Father! Do not allow them to be carried away
by petty ideologies.

May they discover that the most important thing
is not to be more, to have more, to be more powerful,
but to serve others more.

Father! Teach them the truth that liberates,
that breaks the chains of injustice,
that makes men and forges saints.

May there be in each of them a universal heart
that speaks the same language,
that sees not the color of skin,
but the love that is within each one.

A heart that calls every person brother,
and that believes in the city that knows no borders,
for its name is universe, friendship, love, God.
Holy Father! Take care of our young people.

Amen.

Prayer for World Peace by John Paul II

O God, Creator of the universe,
who extends your paternal concern to every creature
and who guides the events of history toward the goal of salvation;
we recognize your paternal love,
which, despite humanity’s resistance
and, in a world divided by dispute and discord,
makes us prepare for reconciliation.
Renew in us the wonders of your mercy;
send your Spirit upon us,
so that he may work in the intimacy of our hearts;
so that enemies may begin to dialogue;
so that adversaries may shake hands;
and so that people may find harmony among themselves.
May all engage in the sincere search
for true peace; may all disputes be eliminated,
may charity overcome hatred,
may forgiveness conquer the desire for revenge.

Prayer for Those Who Suffer

God, kind Father,
hear the prayer we offer to you for those who suffer.
Soothe and comfort the sick, the elderly, and the dying.
Give those who care for them knowledge and patience,
tact and compassion.
Inspire them with actions that encourage, words that enlighten,
love that comforts.
We also commend to you, Lord,
all those who feel sad,
dejected, and despairing, those wounded by life
and by human evil,
those abandoned and marginalized by society.
Lord, fill us with your spirit of love and understanding,
make us sensitive to all human suffering. Amen.

Prayer for the deceased

Almighty God, by the death of Jesus Christ, your Son, you destroyed our death; by his rest in the tomb you sanctified the graves, and by his glorious resurrection you restored us to life and immortality.

Hear our prayer for those who, dead in Christ and buried in him, long for the blessed hope of the resurrection.

Grant, Lord of the living and the dead, that all who on earth have known you through faith may praise you without end in heaven.

Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

Prayer for Priests

Lord Jesus, present in the Blessed Sacrament,
who wished to perpetuate yourself among us
through your Priests,
make their words be only yours,
their actions be yours,
their lives be a faithful reflection of yours.
May they be the men who speak to God of men
and speak to men of God.
May they not be afraid of service,
serving the Church as she wants to be served.
May they be men, witnesses of the eternal in our time,
walking the paths of history with your same step
and doing good to all.
May they be faithful to their commitments,
zealous for their vocation and their dedication,
clear mirrors of their own identity,
and may they live with the joy of the gift received.
I ask this through your Mother, Holy Mary:
She who was present in your life
will always be present in the lives of your priests. Amen.

Prayer for the Poor

God of Justice,
open our eyes
so that we may see you in the face of the poor.
Open our ears
so that we may hear you in the cries of the oppressed.
Open our mouths
so that we may defend you in public
and in private.
Remind us that what we do
to the least,
we do to you.
Amen.
